A while back he posted about replacing his plates. I may have mentioned here before that I collect license plates, and when I saw that post
I asked not-very-seriously if I could have one of the old ones.
Long story short, yesterday I found a sweet Montana plate in my mailbox!
Okay, okay, fine.
I’ve been collecting plates since I was pretty young, but made the conscious decision when eBay came around that I wouldn’t go hunting for plates, and I would try not to buy them, with few exceptions. Most of my life I had a few displayed on various walls but mostly they sat in boxes, until I finally had a place to display them - my basement ceiling. The only problem is, it’s really hard to get pictures of them all setup. Here’s my quick, terrible
attempt below:

A lot of these have a story, like the Tasmania plate my sister found on the roadside, then carried for a 10 mile hike (in Tasmania) for me. Or the Italian one that a friend ripped off a parked car while drunk (I wasn’t there). Many are from cars I’ve had, or from friends. I still have more I need to put up - especially now this new Montana plate! - but need to find a new place to expand into.

Thanks! Yeah, in fact I got to that point probably at age 12 or 13. I had an uncle who worked at a western junkyard, who really got me started on this. He’d send me a stack of plates at Christmas.
After that, it’s just become a fun thing to collect because you can often get them for free, and it gives me an idea for a souvenir wherever we travel. Sometimes I’ll buy them, like in Bermuda one gift shop had a huge box filled with moped plates for like $2.00/ea. Easy choice there!
The sky’s the limit with this, though, so I try not to go crazy. I probably add 1-2 per year.

I have my Texas plates if you you want one. This style (not the most exciting) :
Though I’m not sure that I have any appropriate way to mail it, and I’ll admit I despise dealing with the post office.

I mean, I wouldn’t say no? I have at least one from each state, but I like to get some other interesting ones, themed plates, etc. but I don’t go out of my way, really.

The beauty of plates is they can’t really get damaged in the mail. I’m tempted - you’re the second person to offer this which is cool!

Aww thanks! But more importantly where are you going to put that ridiculous JEGS sticker? When I got it I was like who the hell puts these on their cars anymore.

I always think that I'm going to do something with my former plates but I never do. I might have an NC or PA plate I could send you, but they're nothing fancy, just standard issue.

But yeah, I laughed at the JEGS stickers. I ordered something like an oil fill cap from them and got a sheet of stickers like that. I have to believe most of those get thrown in the trash.

I’ve used them for lots of things in the past, mostly old NH ones because I had dozens of them. I smashed my snowmobile into a tree so I used license plates as patches for the broken fiberglass. This was in high school, mind you.
A garage would be the ideal place to mount lots of them, like up along the top of the wall or whatever. I’m working on that garage thing...

I actually got what I think is an appropriately sized envelope in the mail that could be reused for this, maybe with a couple sheets of thin cardboard for protection, so let me know if you want it.
